City to Waterfall: Exploring Vancouver’s Wild Side

Sea Vancouver

Step aboard and experience Vancouver on our City and Waterfall Tour, a 180 minute journey designed to take you beyond the skyline and into the heart of the coast. This tour brings you through the city’s vibrant waterfront before venturing into the peaceful waters of Deep Cove and the stunning wilderness of Say Nuth Khaw Yum Provincial Park, where beautiful fjords, local harbour seals, and cascading waterfalls create an unforgettable West Coast experience!

Lions Gate Bridge

The tour begins with a pass beneath the Lions Gate Bridge one of Vancouver’s most recognizable landmarks. Opened in 1938, this suspension bridge stretches across the entrance to Burrard Inlet, connecting downtown to the North Shore. Its towering spans and classic design make it especially impressive from the water, offering great views as you pass below,

North Shore Mountains

Northshore Vancouver

As you pass through the Port of Vancouver on your tour, the scale of this working harbour becomes clear. Cargo ships and busy terminals line the shoreline, while the towering North Shore mountains, rise just beyond, creating a dramatic backdrop. Their forested slopes and rugged peaks highlight the striking contrast between the city’s industry and the natural beauty that surrounds it.

Say Nuth Khaw Yum Provincial Park

Entering the calm waters near Deep Cove, into Say Nuth Khaw Yum Park, the pace slows and the atmosphere shifts. Surrounded by forested mountains, this quiet stretch offers a peaceful contrast to the city. This area is part of one of the southernmost fjords in Canada, carved by glaciers, where rugged cliffs rise on both sides from the water.

Buntzen Powerhouse

Buntzen Powerhouse

Further along, you will pass the historic Buntzen Powerhouse, one of the first hydroelectric facilities in British Columbia, built in the early 1900s to supply power to Vancouver. Just west of the powerhouse, a nearby seal area is a great place to spot harbour seals resting along the shoreline, adding a wildlife element to the journey.

Seal Area

Deeper into the park, a well-known seal area offers a peaceful wildlife moment along the journey. The seals are often seen hauled out on rocky outcrops or bobbing in the water nearby, using these quiet coves to rest and socialize. It’s a great chance to see just how close Vancouver lies to such beautiful ecosystems, where wildlife exists just beyond the city’s edge.

Silver Falls

Silver Falls Waterfall

Located about 2/3 of the way into Say Nuth Khaw Yum Park, Silver Falls is a clear highlight of the tour. As you approach by boat, you will see the waterfall flowing down steep, forested cliffs directly into the inlet. The steady flow of water and the surrounding natural landscape make this a great place to take in the scale and scenery of the area before continuing further into the inlet.

Our City and Waterfall Tour offers a unique balance of sightseeing and exploration, guided by experienced captains who bring the coastline to life along the way. Whether you are visiting for the first time or rediscovering your own backyard, this is an unforgettable way to connect with the natural beauty that makes Vancouver so special.
