A City Built Around the Harbour

Vancouver has always been shaped by the ocean, and you can see that clearly the moment you head out on the water. Burrard Inlet has been the centre of the city’s growth since the early days of the port, and many of the landmarks along the shoreline still reflect that history. When we take guests through the harbour, we get to show how Vancouver evolved from a small coastal settlement into a busy, modern waterfront city.

As the city grew in the late 1800s, the harbour became its centre. Sawmills, steamships, and the arrival of the Canadian Pacific Railway turned Vancouver into a major Pacific port almost overnight. Today, it’s still one of North America’s busiest harbours and the best way to understand its past is from the water.

Stanley Park’s Wild Coastline

Seeing Stanley Park from a boat is a completely different experience. Instead of crowds and seawall traffic, you get rugged cliffs, towering cedar and fir trees, and the chance to spot seals or eagles along the shoreline. It’s one of the most peaceful stretches of our tours.

The park’s history goes back thousands of years, long before it became a city landmark in 1888. From the water, that deep connection to nature is unmistakable. We also pass the Brockton Point Lighthouse, a small but iconic guide for ships since the early 1900s.

The Lions Gate Bridge From Below

The Lions Gate Bridge is impressive from the road, but from the water, it’s on a whole different scale. Cruising beneath its massive green towers gives you a true sense of its size and engineering. Built in 1938, it opened the North Shore to development and was named after the twin mountain peaks known as The Lions. It’s one of the most photographed moments on our tours, and for good reason.
