Summer may be winding down, but Vancouver certainly is not!
Fall is one of the most beautiful times to experience the city from the water. The air becomes crisp, the summer crowds begin to ease, and the forests surrounding Vancouver slowly trade their summer greens for shades of yellow, orange, and gold. Our Sea Vancouver adventures continue until October 24th, giving you plenty of time to experience a completely different side of Vancouver this fall.
What wildlife can you see with Sea Vancouver?
Sea Vancouver is a sightseeing experience rather than a dedicated wildlife-watching tour, but when you are exploring Vancouver’s coastline, wildlife has a habit of making an appearance. Harbour seals are one of the marine mammals we regularly encounter. They live in coastal British Columbia throughout the year and can often be spotted swimming near the surface or resting around rocky shorelines. Look up, and you may also spot one of Vancouver’s most impressive residents: the bald eagle. Bald eagles are found throughout coastal British Columbia, where the combination of large trees for nesting and roosting and productive marine waters provides excellent habitat. A variety of other seabirds can also be seen along the way, and occasionally we may even encounter sea lions. Wildlife is always wild, so sightings are never guaranteed, but keeping an eye on the water and shoreline is part of the fun.
Why is fall such a beautiful time to explore Vancouver?
Vancouver’s location between the ocean and mountains is spectacular at any time of year, but fall adds another layer to the scenery.
As deciduous trees begin changing colour, pockets of yellow, orange, and red appear among the evergreen forests surrounding the city. From the water, you get a completely different perspective on these changing landscapes. There is also something particularly West Coast about bundling up on a crisp fall day and heading out onto the water, with the mountains ahead and Vancouver’s skyline behind you.
What will you see on a Sea Vancouver adventure?
A lot can happen in 90 minutes!
Departing from Granville Island, Sea Vancouver combines sightseeing with an exhilarating ride aboard our open air Zodiac style vessels. Along the way, you can take in Vancouver’s skyline, waterfront neighbourhoods, mountains, beaches, forests, and coastal landmarks from a perspective you simply cannot get from land. Then there are the unexpected moments. A bald eagle overhead. A harbour seal watching from the water. A group of seabirds feeding nearby. Maybe even a sea lion making an appearance. It is part city tour, part nature experience, and part adventure.
What should you wear for a fall Sea Vancouver tour?
Dress warmly! Fall days in Vancouver can be beautiful, but travelling across the water in an open-air vessel can feel much cooler than standing on Granville Island. Layers, a warm jacket, and clothing appropriate for the day’s weather will make the experience much more comfortable. Our tours are designed to get you outside and close to the Vancouver scenery, so dressing for that crisp ocean air is part of preparing for the adventure.

The changing leaves, cooler air, mountain views, active harbour, and chance to spot local wildlife create an entirely different atmosphere on the water. It is a chance to experience the city as the seasons change, while still enjoying everything that makes a Sea Vancouver adventure so much fun.
